pressure of 16 MPa and high stroke/bore ratio enable low fuel consumption and low exhaust emission
The NEW DK series engines are designed to run on heavy fuel oil up to CIMAC class H55.
4. PROCESS OF DEVELOPMENT
To accomplish the target, development was promoted according to the process shown in Fig.7. Main components were designed in full use of known-how obtained in development of DL series engines and through analyses of combustion, performance, thermal and mechanical strength with computers. Fig.8 shows the example of FEM calculation of main components.
Concerning prototype parts of main components, the stress was measured in component testing, and the reliability were secured in durability tests.
Fig.9 shows the connecting rod test rig, stress measurement of engine frame, cylinder head and crankshaft. On the other hand, by development of single-cylinder research engine, design quality and reliability of engine were secured, through matching of optimum combustion system, decision of intake and exhaust valve operating timing and understanding of thermal load around the combustion chamber. The NEW DK series prototype engines were designed and manufactured based on data obtained from these results. In addition, quick development of high reliable engines was accomplished.
